hi has anyone any idea what can have hapened to my oil presure last year when last run all was fine and when i started it today for the first time this year the oil light is on,the engine is a petter mini twin, all help gracefully accepted, thanks.Kieron

I dont have a wiring diagram but a wire off in most cases would mean that the light would not come on at all.

to add to my earlier. If you have access try gently (or as you dare) tapping the valve with a piece of wood or similar to free it.

Oil pump has not primed.

I have had problems in the past with a Volvo where the oil pump did not start to pump oil through the engine as it had not primed. I think it was worn and could not create the initial vacuum to suck up the oil in a dry state. I would fit an oil pressure gauge in place of the oil switch and see what is happening but I would caution about running the engine without some investigation as you will seize the engine.

I am not familiar with the Petter engine but I imagine the oil pump is driven off the camshaft. Have you changed the oil and or the oil filter during the winter, this may have lost you the prime on the oil pump.

J.

There is an article on the Mini Twin on this website which you can download for a fee,

Petter Mini-Seven and Mini-Twin Aug 1997 p106

I have looked in my collection of PBOs which goes back to 1967 but do not have that particular volume.

The really obvious one - Has it got any oil in it?

You have probably checked this but it is the first thing to look at just incase you haven't!

I bet its taken all this while before he did the washing up and was allowed back to the computer.
