I'm replacing my old (early 1950's) Smiths oil gauges for more modern ones. The new ones I bought have 1/8 NPT male threads on the back and don't fit the thread on my existing oil pipes. I believe (given the age etc) that the existing pipe connecters are probably 1/8 BSP, and because the existing nuts (on my oil pipes) that should connect, definitely have a washer inside, I'm supposing that the threads are BSPP (parallel thread) as opposed to a taper thread.

Anyone know where I can get a pair of adaptors for the back of the new gauges that will allow me to retain my existing oil connecter pipes. I'm supposing that I need an adaptor with female 1/8 NPT (to fit on the gauge) to male 1/8 BSPP for the tubenut on the oil pipe to connect to.

The nearest I have found so far are female 1/8 NPT to male 1/8 BSPT. I don't know if my parallel BSP thread will fit and seal on a BSP tapered thread.

Any thought? I'm a bit stumped.

ASAP have quite a range of adaptors for oil pressure gauges. Maybe not exactly what you want but you may find something. http://www.asap-supplies.com/search/oil+pressure+adaptor

Thanks, Vyv_cox

Didn't see it at first but it does look as if ASAP may be able to help. I've sent them an enquiry about the part in question because the info on their site is incomplete. The BSP male thread is simply described as 'BSP', it doesn't mention whether it is tapered or parallel. Looking promising though.

The problem isn't yet resolved so any other responses will be much appreciated

I'm trying to work my way through a similar dilemma.

I found the local Pirtek manager very helpful. He seemed to be happy to be challenged with something a bit off-normal. Depends on the individual, I guess.

There is also 'Cotswold Engineering Supplies' 01684 298786. They were helpful on the phone but I haven't used them.

Good Luck
Bob
