Oil leaking from TAMD 73P\'s

I've noticed engine oil accumulating in the "tray" under both engines. On the basis that it seems too much of a coincidence for both engines to fail dramatically at the same time, and the oil pressures have remained constant, I've assumed it was probably down to overfilling at the last service. Before cruising from Solent to Dartmouth on Friday I put a litre of oil in each engine, and whilst the cruise was fine, on arrival I noticed a little oil had leaked from the port engine. However it had just leaked onto the floor rather than spraying everywhere as I would expect with an oil leak. On the way back on Monday I checked the engine under load and noticed a slight oil mist coming out of the crankcase vent filters. Rang Sea Start and they said it would be OK to continue so long as the oil pressure stayed OK, which it did all the way home.
Checked on return and no further oil has leaked, the oil pressure was fine, and the engines ran perfectly.

I'll get them checked out anyway, but wondered if some of the more technically able amonst you might hazard a guess as to what has caused it. Is it just a drain from the crankcase filters due to overfilling or a faulty pressure valve, or do you think I should me more worried and cut the wife's allowance in preparation for the bill?

Re: Oil leaking from TAMD 73P\'s

Had the same problem on 72EDC's the crankcase pressure is always a problem with these series, you must change the CC filter far more than 61's, I have asked a lot of people about this and Volvo will say same. I found that the filters had not been changed on the boat I bought and loads of oil had come out of filter and RV.
I have also just found a cracked sump on mine, no reason for it but it dumped oil, looks like a casting fault £1400 /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif plus removal.
I have just cut the top off a filter and modified it with filter material the wire inside will still allow oil to catch and drain, at £26 at time its worth it to change them every 10 -15 hrs.
On the 75's they have two filters.

The oil should be about 1/4 " down on stick volvos don't like being filled to top.

Look on Boatdiesel.com under volvo general/70,71 etc.
