i have an oil leak on my kad 32, which only occurred after i taped up the oil levels to max,
it would appear to be a minor drip which hits the power steering belt and sprays the area,
is it possible this could be linked to me overfilling the oil levels, thks

Hi

As already asked, have you overfilled the oil? If the answer is yes then as you asked you have probably caused the problem. In all the cases I have seen it will be from the crankshaft front seal (behind the lower pulley) If you are quick and correct the oil level, that is have not run the engine for a long peroid of time you may, just may get away with it, otherwise it is a seal replacement.

Of course I maybe totally wrong and you have a completly seperate oil leak but I stand to be corrected on this one.

I would be surprised that overfilling oil will cause front seal to go, has any work been caried out recently?

The crankshaft seal must have been borderline for a top-up to cause the front it to leak. First check the oil lines to the oil filter and around that area.

The good news is that changing the crankshaft seal isn't megabucks.

oil leak

no work has been carried out , i just noticed oil level at half way between min & max , and tapped her up , when for a 2 hour run and oil appeared , the lip stick shows her just at max,
but i recall someone here discusssing not to fill volvo's to the top , its just a drop but hits the power steering belt and messy.

Hopefully no harm done, just take a little out.

When we change our oil we fill it back to the mid way point (i.e half way between Min and Max) then leave it there. We carry a 1 litre bottle to top it up if necessary, but so far have never needed to top it up.
