OK - so this Windy thing has cost me a few bob, but what the hell. During the season, I found small amounts of oil and water in the bilge. The water was the easy bit and it turned out to be a knackered pump - replaced!. But what of the oil?? I thought that mebbe it was a slightly leaky crank seal, but the level in both engines never went down.

Turns out that the stbd leg hydraulic pump was leaking ATF into the bilge and the tank had just about emptied by the end the season without actually causing a problem. The high pressure outlet had been cross threaded. Heli-coiled and fixed now thanks to Rob Walker, who found the problem in the first place!

I reckon my new motors were installed by the butcher of Baghdad back in '99. Ho-Hum, so it goes!

Anyway - how about...Full service on 2 x Volvo 4.3L and 290 DP legs including following parts and repairs:-

4 stopper manifolds
2 oil filters
2 fuel filters
2 secondary fuel filters
engine oil x 2
1.5L ATF
Leg gear box oils
Antifreeze / Winterise
Repair hydraulic pump

Total inc labour £688. I thought that was OK, and worth posting here in praise of Rob Walker.

I reckon those are the rubber bits at the end of the external part of the exhaust...maybe

Its a small rubber closed ended bung that blanks off a water spigot on the exhaust risers. Its held in place with a worm drive clip, like a hose. The spigot is there if needed to take a hot water feed off to wherever is required. Two of mine are in use, to heat the LPG vapourisers, as it runs on gas.

Erm is not ATF a red colour ?

Can normally get good indication of what has emptied itself into the bilge THIS time by its colour.

Rob is a great bloke and I am happy to see him doing well.

Although one quiet Sunday early this year when we had TC in the yard by his workshop I was ready to throttle him.

He was running a big outboard most of the afternoon while we were antifouling. Must have only had those hose cups on the water inlets as we 200 yds away had to shout at each other 10 feet apart to make ourselves heard.

I understand about running engines to prove some faults have gone away, but on Sundays, grrrrr

Re: Erm is not ATF a red colour ?

Well in the bilge it was a light brown / honey clear stuff (or red-ish). Trouble is, my engine oil never goes black, 'coz I run on gas. It stays clear all season, so it doesn't look that different. Admittedly, it did smell like ATF after we cleared it out.
