The Volvo manual doesn;t differentiate between 2003 and 2003T when it comes to replacement engine oil (CD quality diesel oil), but I have a nagging half-memory of reading that turbos need a different oil - any comments or guidance gratefully received.

No specific knowledge but I agree that a CD rating seems too low for a turbo engine. This designation is obsolete anyway, and the replacement designation of CF4 will be sufficient for your engine. The description says 'Introduced in 1990. For high-speed, four-stroke, naturally aspirated and turbocharged engines. Can be used in place of CD and CE oils.'

Using an oil that is too highly rated for the engine, e.g synthetic grades up in the higher designations such as CH and CI, can lead to high rates of bore wear. These oils are intended for low sulphur-content fuels, which marine diesel is not. The additive is abrasive if not consumed in the combustion process.
