Hi

My Bukh DV24 has a horizontally mounted oil filter and access underneath it is not great. Even after draining the oil and waiting a little while there is still residual oil in the filter, which does what you might expect under gravity when I unscrew the filter. I've tried oil absorbent pads, nappies & kitchen roll underneath the filter to catch the oil and enclosing the filter in a plastic bag to catch the dribble at source. These options all work to a certain degree but are the there any other routes which might be better that I have not considered?

I've just changed the filter on my Beta 30.
Can be difficult to catch all the drips but I found a plastic carrier bag with lots of absorbent paper eg kitchen towel inside caught the worst of it. Also slacken the filter slowly and when it starts dripping don't undo further until the dripping has stopped, or nearly so.
Good luck!

I accuse you of being a softy! :):) Ever tried a vertically mounted spin-on?

1. Lay one of last year's bath towels under the particularly awkward bracket which ensure there are no uniform edges that can be sealed.
2. Lay copious oil pads. 'ugely expensive, incapable of staying in place
3. fluff up copious kitchen paper towelling.
4. Remove spin-off with the 'ugely inconvenient internal pipe
5. Curse copiously.

Success rate? I reckon I get 10% of the oil on an oil pad. (n)

I use kitchen foil to form a chute that catches all the oil and directs it into a container; it's infinitely adjustable to fit right up underneath the filter and catch every last drop and direct it wherever.
The photo is of using this method to catch heat transfer fluid from a drain point - in case I haven't described it very well.

Some people are wozzes. Get some absorbent paper ready under the filter area. Loosen the filter. Then spin it round, whip it out, sling it in a container & stick the paper over the hole. Do it quickly, then apart from oil stains, when you wipe your hands on your trousers, there will be nothing to worry about.
