My 4JHE Yanmar engine manual suggest, for oil change, to suck it out from the dipstick pipe.

Wouldn't it be better to let it drip ? Is there any suitable plugged port on the oil sump I can fit a tap to ?

I have no space available around my engine to look by myself, but if it is feasible, someone has already done and you agree it is healtier for the engine, I'll try to find a way.

Thank you for any advice.

Have a nice day

Yes, that is the way to do it if you have not got access to the sump plug, AND get a container underneath,AND get it out full of oil...

Often engines are fitted with a sump drain hand pump, permanently piped to the sump drain plug - dead easy to then pump directly into a container. If you haven't got a sump pump fitted you can often fit one adjacent to the engine, or clamped to the engine if you have room. You will need to replace the sump plug with another plug which has a hose attached to the pump - a Hydraulic engineer will be able to make up a suitable length of hose together with a suitable fitting to screw into your sump - BUT you will have to take the sump plug to him to make sure the thread is the same. Hand pumps only cost a few pounds from your friendly chandlery or i believe Patay pumps do a nice all Brass one, complete with a clamp for fixing.

Another way is to use the PELA oil extractor which is a gadget which you pump up a vacuum and then it sucks out the oil direct into the container - by all acounts works very well. There were other threads recently on this subject.

On boat engines its unusual to be able to get to the sump plug with the engine in situ.
The chap who put my boat together had the foresight to install a tapped sump plug with a tube (the one you stuff down the dip stick hole) leading up the side of the engine, via an on/off tap, to a manual pump bolted to the side of the engine. Oil changes are a piece of pish!
If you are suggesting dumping oil into the bilge to pump out, forget it! Apart from making a hell of a mess, cold dirty oil is a bugger to shift/suck up a pipe.
