I've lost count of the number of times i've jumped to the defence of Sealine on these forums, and how do they repay me? By nickin 3 of my staff in as many weeks, that's how.

It seems the redundancies a while back was just a mechanism to get rid of some of the old school, and the new production director who was ex auto industry has decided to introduce auto industry techniques to their manufacturing. Don't know if its good news for future buyers or bad news for past ones, but 2 of the 3 staff were very capable quality managers so it seems that's the focus at the mo'. If Sealine want to let me know what skills they need next, i'll be sure to spend a few years and umpteen thousand pounds training people up for them again /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Anyway, as i've always said, they're crap boats and i'd never buy one, and all the glowing praise i've heaped on my S37 and T46 in the past was just an attempt at irony, OK....

Does anyone have a number for my new favourite forumite, CLion...
 
Obviously you weren't paying them enough, or their space in the company car park was the dank corner underneath that tree where all the pidgeons sit.

Either way, the average quality of Sealine staff has just increased, and for that, you should feel proud /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Maybe you should reinforce the message at work that being employed by a boat builder is not actually sunshine and bikinis, but more the perfume of fibreglass, plywood shavings, and glue.

Not more quality men, the more they take on the worse the situation. All they do is send me questionairs, and forms. I now tell them when they have caught up with our quality and efficiency, I'll take an interest.

It depends if the quality managers are allowed to influence the overall process, rather than just picking up the defects as they come through and producing lots of pretty graphs.

An observation from the Sealines I have owned, is that their main issue would seem to be consistency, and as a customer, you rather take pot luck as to how your boat turns out. In my case two out of three (including current one) have been just fine, but the first was a disaster area.

Experienced something similar with our Holding Co. a few years back (Germans)


they apponited a new top dog who had worked at FAG
he then proceeded to bring in all his old cronies to NEW senior management positions. The "new" Production Director was previously a QC manager /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

18 months later they were kicked out just before the banks pulled the plug.

Not saying the same will happen with Sealine but too many people from the same source narrows the mind.
 
Quite so, free market an all that. He shd've paid them more and/or was probably a git to work for.

I must say Houghn is bound to feel very heartened by our support for him regarding business matters in these difficult times.
