Oi! censorship

Our campaign (with hlb aka Hadyn) to deregulate (a bit) the text worked for a while. But I see that the English for the French word "merde" is automatically changed to [censored] upon posting! And don't move this off to the solitary confinement board!

Now, we aren't going to write horrible filth, but a lot of words are used in everyday language. I wondr if that crummy resort town in lincolnshire scnthorpe is barred again, and just to test:

Scunthorpe, Bum, bugger, damnation, damn, damnable, Blair, computer programmer, blood, bloody, tarnation, Volvo, [censored], shite, eff-word, Jesus H Christ, effing.

The above should suffice for normal usage

Its funny how a few words gets changed, but the offensive, immature, ill informed comments on the PBO forum, under "bloody powerboats", go unchallenged. Take a look at it, I'm sure you'll see what I mean!

I would'nt if I were you (look at the PBO post on Bloody Motorboats) - it will only make you say things you regret as I did. Its the first time I have felt inclined to deliver a virtual punch in the mouth and our Mr Harvey, yachtsman of repute, says I should have taken his grossly insulting post (which not only attacked the skills and IQ of motor boaters but their families and friend as as well) "with a pinch of salt". Does he really think any normal person could!

May I add that I did not use a solitary bad word in my reply but it was significantly better spelt than the original post. I wonder how I could have managed that being just a dim motor boater?

Nick (severely pissed off!)

Re: local difficulty

I think (but I may be wrong) that this whole yotti-v-motorboat is concentrated upon the solent, and areas cruised by solent based yachts. Something to do with London drivers, and the royal yacht clubs not allowing motorboats until 1893 or whatever. There's no such aggro in Med, and hopefully not where you are either.

Oh and of course I don't mean us to use the [censored] words here too much, cept praps lightheartedly.

happy boating.

I'm not worried 'cos I can't spell siht anyways. Even if I did want to use that word for turd I would use the Greek word which is SKATA. Is this a scatalogical subject?

Unfortunately, censorship does'nt change ingrained attitudes, Nick. Console yourself with the fact that everytime Mr Harvey spots a powerboat it's ruined his day
I'm sure a sociologist would have a field day with this yottie v powerboatie thing. It's a classic little Englander conflict with definite overtones of class distinction, new/old money, haves and have-nots etc

A theory on business processes in IPC office

Yes, you're right, it's gone completely. The full scale commercial stuff was in Bugs in fuel for at least the last 3-4 days. Yet when I make a post containing the word sh!t the entire bugs-fuel thread gets zapped pronto. From which I conclude, when you post a message wiv a norty word a big hooter goes off in K&K's office and they go and look at the post, and if they don't like it (or, like nudity, if it was not in the correct context) they replace it wiv [censored], only in my case they were so trigger happy when they read about commercial advertising they went and zapped the fuel bug thread and then they forgot to come back and censor the sh!t.
