Holding tank overflowed and contents spiled into bilge . Whats the best way of cleaning and afterwards getting rid of smell.. Already washed out with sea water etc .. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
THIS Guy has found an unusual way of dealing with it .. On the other hand if thats to drastic .. Oxi Cleaning Chemicals seem to get a good write up .. Anyway should the overflow from the tank go into the bildges .. Its going to stink all the while .. Our overflow exits above the water line ..
Over flow is vent to outside but have carbon filter in line . Cap not screwed down tighly so going to remove completely ar replace with direct hose to out side
Flood the bilge with a strong disinfectant/water mix, rock the boat to stir up and suck out with a pump-out hose. When I bought my old girl (the boat I mean) she had bilges full of sewage for some reason I never did find out as the vent is overside, that is how the yard dealt with it.
Wash it out with a mixture of sea water and Bilgex. We used to use it to clean the decks and bilges of a "pleasure" boat tripping along the north Cornish coast after passengers chundered.
Next trip smelled sweetly - until we got back to harbour!! /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif
the high pH and cholrine will attack polyester fibres, the resins in fibreglass boats may contain polyester resins and long exposure should be avoided, bleach hardens the rubber seals in the heads so shouldnt be used there either,
