Hi Guys
I had a little mishap last weekend and misjudged coming alongside a pontoon - didn't quite allow for the high wind - result a deep dent in the hull. It hasn't gone right through but certainly has made a mess of the gel coat and into the underlying structure.
Could some of you knowledgeable people advise me of someone in the Brightlingsea area who could do the repair.
Thanks
Bob

Now that was a silly thing to do. I came down the wallet from shotly on Sunday morning and am pleased to be here to tell the tale. It was blowing at least a 7 but why did they forecast a 4 or 5?

Cant help with the repairer, I'm afraid!!

Tollesbury Marina do anti-osmosis work so are probably worth a try. Could try Peter Clark's at West Mersea - don't know if they do that sort of thing but their work is good quality and they'll tell you if its not for them.

Had a lot of experience of both Tollesbury and SMS Shotley. Former are cheaper but latter do a better job. Have used both. Would recommend Shotley.

Talk to Jon who operates the launch out to the pontoons (weekends only now I think). If he cannot do the repair himself he will be able to suggest someone.

Jon has done work on my previous boat and is excellent (and good value!).

Yes it was windy in Brightlingsea on Sunday - had my quickest passage from West Mersea yet! Berthing was interesting to say the least - I was fortunate!

Bob,
Question 1. How old is the boat.? & What colour.
2. How good are you with your hands?

Repairing Gel coat is not difficult ( in my humble opinion ) if you have a little patience, and follow the instructions shown on most of the gel coat repair kits.
Go into either Morgans, Boat Park& Ride, Frenches and check out what the destructions tell you to do....If you think that its within your level of competence have a go yourself.....By the way they tell me that BP&R are happy to do valeting, so they may be able to do it for you... HTH Tony W.

You will not do better than Peter Clarke at West Mersea Tel no 01206 385905 The paint job they did on Dolly is fantastic and was very realistically priced. Get a quote from them. I am sure they undertake this sort of work.

Andy Webb for a limited job like a dent is the bizz. I've used Woodrolfe to do work when the boat was bought-wouldn't go back. Peter Clarke does an "alright" job in his own time.
