Please forgive the anchoring paranoia, but
1) How strong are galvanised or SS shackles? I have 8mm chain which will take at most a 10mm shackle. How do these shackles compare in strength with the chain?
2) I can make a 12mm shackle fit by slightly 'springing' the last chain link in a vice. Will this significantly affect the chain's strength?
3)Some shackles' strength is quoted in SWL and some in breaking force: how can you compare these?
4)Where is the best place to buy good quality, reliable shackles?

No doubt I'll be back with more later, but for the present thank you for your forbearance.

a) use the shackle that is designed to fit .... if a 10mm fits ok - that will be ok ... if next size up does not fit - then its the 10mm.
b) Never ever force or distort a link to get it over something or connected - you weaken it immediately in the act of distortion.
c) the chain is far stronger than you imagine.

SWL and Breaking strain are worlds apart ... SWL can be 30% or less of Breaking strain. You cannot compare the two side by side ....
