Oh dear - Marine Megastore...

No, your link was for a cheaper valise liferaft. The OP was talking about a canister liferaft. The extra cost on your link for an identical canister liferaft was around £80.

Tut tut, keep up sailorman.

The other benefit of buying from MM is that they're only order takers, my liferaft came direct from Seago and was made this year. Buy from a retailer and you can guarantee it was be a 2014 model. Or in the case of a chandlery I visited - 2013 manufacture date with no discount.

Have MM been taken over I wonder? The phone was answered within a few rings and the chap was very knowledgeable.

so was the saving £80 or £29

There wasn't a saving as such, the OP simply bought the raft from Marine Megastore for an original and final price of £570, and is very happy.

However, for the seventh or eighth time of telling, the more expensive supplier you linked to quotes a price of £649 for the same model of raft, a difference of £79, not £29.

You keep comparing the cannister version from Marine Megastore against the valise version from Suffolk. It's not an unreasonable mistake to make initially, but persisting in it after it's been pointed out just makes you look silly.

That £80 is in fact £29 if you care to check the web link

Take your own advice?

No, that is for the valise, I was buying a canister. One is in a bag, the other a box. Canister liferafts are fixed onto rails and decks and are quicker to deploy, valise rafts are usually kept below so can't be washed away in a massive sea but on the other hand have to be lugged up in an emergency. They are different items, with different price tags.

Tested yesterday, shame the marina water was so mucky. Deflated, rolled up and put it back in the canister, all good. Don't want nasty pyrotechnics in the raft so I chucked them in the skip by the hoist. Packing these things up is much easier than people say.
