Hello

I'm about to start bringing a Westerly Storm (33 ft) up to ISAF Cat 2 with the intention of doing the Solent Santander race this July.

Has anyone done this recently to a similar sized yacht? I'd be grateful for any advice, but I'm particularly interested in recomendations on where to get the required storm sails (trisail, storm jib and heavy weather jib) an idea of cost would be useful too!

Cheers

as they'll probably never come out of their bags they can be pretty manky, so long as they're fit for the job. try secondhand. seateach have a huge selection and will take them back if they don't fit. look on their website or call them for a list.

Are you sure you only need to go to Cat 2? Its a moot point as to whether a leg to Santander keeps you within the required distance from a safe port!

Don't worry its only an Epirb, another liferaft and an SSB or Satcom system you need among other things if my memory of the regs is correct...

The last 3 Santander races all had periods of 45 knots or more. I did 2 of them and am doing this years.! Would recomend sails that can do the job if asked! You don't need satcom etc, navtex gets you all the way. You do need an epirb.
See you at the start. PM me if you want a chat about the race or anything.
