hi,i have found on my trapper t28 a wooden plaque with this written on it....OFF NO 338456 REG.TON 4 80/100 can you tell me what it is..best regards graham...
The official number is issued when a ship is registered. A couple of years back all registered yachts had to confirm their registration and a new certificate of registry was given, if you don't have this then it may be worth contacting the MCA and seeing if you can be reinstated cheaply. What you may need is a bill of sale from the last registered owner.
<font color=blue>This number shows that at some stage your craft was registered in Cardiff as Part 1. In short, fully registered as a British vessel.
I have Lloyds here at home but cannot look your boat up without the original name and when it was built. If you want to PM me maybe I can give you some in-depth info. about your vessel.
My boat has a very similar inscription carved into one of her timbers. I take it that this means she too was once part 1 registered. She has been SSR reg'd for many years. She was built in either 1960 or 1961. As far as I know she has always been known as "Blue Blazes". She is a 23ft Bruce Campbell Christina. Could you look her up for me please?
<font color=blue>Unfortunately Lloyds only show vessels of 27' and above. In fact I thought that was criteria for part 1. 27' and 2.25 tons. Perhaps someone can correct or confirm this, my memories are hazy with the onset of old age.
I don't know if it's any help to you Byron, but I've just been and got the number, which is carved into her foredeck beams. "Off No 302058 Reg Tons 2 91/100". The tonnage seems to fit the criteria, but she is definitely a 23 footer (unless you count davits).
<font color=blue>Sorry! Lloyds wouldn't list her at 23' so even if I had the original name I couldn't look her up. Finding a craft by no. only would be like getting my wife to walk by a clothes shop.
I don't think it's a criteria for Part 1. I had a little Fredk Parker 25 footer called "Blue Seal" and she was Part 1 registered and about 2 tons. (Guessed by the man on the travel lift).
<font color=blue>I think you are right John, I'm probably confused between Lloyds not listing less than 27' and the Warrant rule whe a Warrant can't (shouldn't) be issued to a vessel less than 27' and less than 2¼ tons.
Its all good stuff though and keeps the forum bubbling /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
The registrar can provide you with a certificate showing the details of the ship when it was taken off the register - ie last owner, builder etc etc. I believe I paid about £25 a couple of years ago. They just need the official number.
The Reg. Tonnage is NOT actual weight ... it is based on volumetric calculation. OK for a yacht it is relatively close to light displacement ..... but could lead to embarrassing situation if not known ------ trailer weights etc.

Bilge Keelers get up further ! I only came - cos they said there was FREE Guinness !
Mine is Reg. Tons 6.69, light displacement 20,000lbs.
(The Register Tonnage is, more or less, the volume below the weather deck, plus volume of closed deck erections, less allowances in respect of propelling spaces and navigation spaces, expressed in hundreds of cubic feet.)
Mine is 12.66 tonnage and it qoutes the depth as 2.04 mtr what does this refer to the draught is 1.5 mtr its a shame they have done away with the old Blue book which has details of all previous owners, whereas the new onw is A4 sheet of card laminated in plastic.
