Tried to register some new vhf kit this w/e only to find this statement on the Ofcom website:

"Due to scheduled maintenance the Licensing Centre services will be unavailable from 18:00hrs on Friday 23rd January until 08:00hrs on Monday 27th January."

How good is this: the communications regulator doesn't even know what day of the week it is.

(For the slow of understanding, today is Monday 26 January 2009.)

Maybe they were thinking of 2008 or maybe the public sector is going to save us some money by having longer weekends.

Who can say?

come on Martin,
It is, after all, an independent body that reports directly to the government, with a budget of some £130million, mostly from fee payers tv licensing, radio operators fees and the like, it employs 810 professionals in their field,

you didn't really expect them to know what day of the week it is, Did you? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

and here's a list of the main players and their declared interests,

http://www.ofcom.org.uk/about/csg/ofcom_board/disclosable_interests/

they're too busy doing other things before ofcom!!

Difficult to see how some some of those individuals can make a meaningful contribution to most of the things they are involved with. I've heard of "too many snouts in the trough" but how do you get just one snout in so many troughs/

However I doubt if any of those individuals had much input into the wording of the notice about the website being down for the weekend.

At least there was an attempt to give some indication that the site was down for the weekend. When I tried to log-on to the BT website on Friday evening there was just a statement that it was down for upgrading. No indication as to whether it was to be down for a few minutes, overnight, the whole weekend or for many weeks. That's an efficient PLC. How you would prefer it done I suppose. No mistakes, no frigging information to make any mistakes with.
