There's an (maybe several) Odysseus 32 for sale in the Corfu area. Ex charter. 1992, and under £22K.
Has anyone any knowledge of these when chartering? And any comments on buying an ex charter yacht?
Thanks.

The Odysseus boats will be welll looked after, but a bit long in the tooth. The price sounds about right but remember you will have to pay VAT in Greece on top of that. There are also fees for taking it off the Greek register and transferring ownership to you, so be clear about who is going to pay for this.

Establish what inventory comes with the boat as, although it is usually comprehensive in charter trim they may try to keep some of the more portable items such as EPIRB and liferaft. Try to get hold of a copy of the standard charter inventory as a starting point.

As to condition, generally boats based in Corfu have a relatively easy time because winds are light and distances travelled short. The 32 is a small boat by today's standards and not well known outside Greece, but perfectly adequate as an economical boat for 2 persons (plus perhaps a couple of small children).

Be aware that it is no longer cheap to keep a boat out there if you want the security of a marina base, although itinerant liveaboards can get by on more modest budgets - but for that you probably need a bigger boat.

Hope this helps.

Odysseus 32 is a modified Dromer Discovery (30 ft) with a sugarscoop (bathing platform) added. Solidly built boats, beamy giving good accomodation for their length but fairly basic in side.
Chartered a Discovery in the 1990s and was happy with it.
I guess some will be well warn by now so probably depends on present condition/refurbishment needed as to wether the asking price is fair. In summary they were sound boats.

I believe Odysseus sold all of them some time ago some to other charter companies others to private buyers so may or may not be VAT paid.

Odysseus 32

I chartered one of these in 2009. Picked up in Palairos and dropped it at Gouvia, Corfu. At that time they still owned 4 or 5 although all were for sale. I think they planned to run them until all sold as they are solid and very well maintained. All were refitted in 2007 (I think). New Yanmar engine, new mast, boom and standing rigging, holding tank along with any other work needed by individual boats. All had in mast reefing and new headsail furling.
I was very impressed with them. Solid and spacious for a 32 footer and sailed quite well. They were designated the 32 after a sugarscoop was added to the old Discovery 30. The scoop made swimming and stern to mooring easier but it was only bolted on with a bit of sealant round the join. On our charter boat it filled with water which meant we carried about 30 or 40kg of unnecessary weight!
With 2 of us on board and showering there most days we needed to fill with water about every 4 days. Over 2 weeks we used 60 euros of diesel
