Does anyone know what has caused this long white line of what looks like foam or choppy water. It happened one night last week too but I've never seen it in 40years of living here?! I'll try an post some pics later.

I've noticed it too and on occasions you can see it across Porthkerry and as far as Nells Point. Looks like the wash from a Pilot boat but when you sail through it it seems to be foam/scum.

And it's not a tideline as it is too far out.

Strange!

it's the same stuff from seaweed that is used in some beers to keep bubbles alive, and in ice-cream to make it easy to scoop when frozen. Alginates.

I think you will find its coming from the sewer pipe that was extended at the knap,
If every thing they discharge into the sea safe and ok then why did they extend that sewer pipe a mile further out from bottom water ?????????

by chance I was looking at aerials of E Scotland.

Try Meikle Ferry on Google Earth, then zoom in and pan around the Firth... Lots of lines of white foam, all leading to a mysterious point. !
