This is a real long shot but here goes.

My YC has a very old Godiva fire pump that we use for blowing the mud off our slipway. Unfortunately a part of the suction side of the pump has disintegrated through old age.

The part is cast iron & bolted to the exhaust manifold ~ the idea is that when you start the pump you close a flap valve that diverts the exhaust gases through this part and starts a suction on the inlet side of the pump.

Question ~ anyone got one or know where I might find one on the net.

Maybe there's an ex fireman out there that can help?

Peter.

Thanks for that I'll give a go!

As an engineer I'd probably knock something up in a day but I no longer have access to a proper workshop.

You're right it is a casting but it seems that this is a weak point on all these pumps. Any pumps that we have found have all had this part missing.
I live in hope as this forum never ceases to amaze me!
Peter.

In that case Peter , you may be better off looking for a nice friendly pattern maker and doing a new pattern to allow for the weakness , I don't know if he does that sort of work but Cuchilo ( Jason ) is a pretty good man when it comes to wood . So use the old parts as a guide , make a new pattern with allowances , cast a new part and Robert is in some way loosely related to you . Could get a few more of the dead units working again too . Just a thought

This is probably a silly idea, but composite technology has come a long way....
If you cannot get one 'off the shelf', would it be possible to make up a new one in composites? Are the remaining bits off the old component sufficient to be able to take a mould off it?
And then 'lay up' a new part using resin and mat (?)

I doubt godivas are still made, unless they use a different engine, I know coventry climax dont exist. Tried to get an engine for a lotus elite, some time ago.
We had a bunch of godivas in the army, evry camp had four or five, so maybe army surplus or whatever?

Oh Yes They Are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hale Products Europe is based in Warwick and employs 180 staff in the design, manufacture and delivery of fire pumps, and has a controlling

96 per cent share of the market in the UK. The main product of the Warwick site is the Godiva pump, which comes in trailer and vehicle mounted varieties, as well as a portable option.

The Warwick site is also the home to the company’s ongoing research and development (R&D). The company works in direct commun-ication with the fire fighters throughout its product development phase, listening to their requirements, and reacting to their comments. In this way, the new innovations and designs are able to satisfy the highly demanding needs of the fire fighting profession.

I refer you to my post in which I said, "if they are made it's with a different engine"!! Which it is!
They DO NOT make coventry climax engines anymore, which the original godiva portable fire pump was powered with!

Dont you just hate it when folk jump all over you, without first reading what was written!

Ah, but they do have the spares and the casting moulds.... Colin.
No one mentioned acquiring complete engines Sir.
Are you having a grumpy day Colin?

Mmmmmmm I guess somebody needs to tell the lotus club and the cooper racing fraternity about that, they've been looking for spares for the CC engines for years. Mind you they have made a bunch themselves, but not heads and blocks.

Brilliant!! I'll inform the lads about those engines!! Get in now, those engines are rarer than rocking horse manure!

Might be worth a try. They have loads of Ex MOD and Govt surplass. Plenty of new old stock and parts that have been sat on shelves for 30 years and never touched.

I have found a few useful parts for the most obscure things there.

If you are ever in devon it's always worth a visit, although it's very easy to spend a whole day rummaging

Guys, Guys
I only asked about a spare part ~ I didn't think it would start a fight /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I've been in contact with Hales and yes they do manufacture Godiva Pumps. They have also been very helpful in so much as they went and got o'l Bert (ex storeman - retired 20 years ago after serving his full 50) out of retirement and he has identified my spare part. Apparently Godiva stopped making my particular model after the Germans bombed Coventry in '41 and blew the stores up.

So I now have the part number of the spare I can't get /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

It's slow but it is progress.
Peter.
