In October you are likely to encounter periods of ; gales, windless days, rain, no precipitation, fog, good visibility.

Wind direction will be predominantly east, west, north or south.

You are unlikely to encounter snow, but it shouldn't be ruled out.

Had you done it in 2011 you'd have had some of the best weather of the year. One thing, though - days are very noticeably shorter. Doesn't matter if you're OK with arriving or departing in the dark.

We went swimming off the boat in Studland last October. Well OK not for long but weather was nice enough to look like it might have been a good idea.

put it this way.cornish cruising have done the falmouth to london run in jan for the last few years there and back with 3/4 boats and never been late,and cross channel at that time year.you have plenty bolt holes.how long have you got ?
