October Friday - who else is afloat?

Lechalde:

It's 1830 and I need the lights on to type this. The swallows have all gone to Africa because the temperature is about 10 degs. The river is in flood and red boards are out. Not ideal boating conditions BUT:


* A good pal walked down to the boat and we went for trip and a chat.

* Further chatting with Peter the lock keeper.

* Emptied the toilet cassette, (highlight )

* Dropped pal off on the bank at down-town Lechlade.

* Went upstream of the Roundhouse but not far because it's narrower there and the eddy currents unprecitable.

* Moored boat and cooked a tin of 'The Full Monty Breakfast' for dinner. Tastes much better when the eater is cold and wet.

* Donned thermals, turned on Radio 4. And then lap-top to type this important message.

* Will visit neigbours shortly for a glass of wine and 'music'. They can play guitars and I make squeaky noises on a harmonica.

Slightly miffed that the clocks change soon so even short Friday, after work, trips won't be possible. But am so glad I have a boat. It's like a weekly battery charge for the soul!

Any one else on thier boat this evening?

Well we are at different ends of the river. I have swans and ducks swimming on my lawn at Weybridge (dog very confused) Weir stream has risen about 4ft. In addition I have just finished replacing 2 raw water pumps and 2 circulation pumps and every bit of rubber piping in the cooling systems of my little Broom and I am desperate to put the system under load on the river. The problem is being moored at Thames Ditton; the river is flowing fast on Reds and the high tide at Tedders has conspired to keep me stationary for the weekend I suspect.

Spent the last seven hours aboard, but stuck in Bray!

Managed to retrim table, bar, and several skirting areas in the front cabin, fitted a new head unit and replaced some dud switches!

New name going on tomorrow along with a few more jobs...

I'm quite tired now!!

I was supposed the be aboard my 'new' boat but its still in a boatyard Chertsey where they are trying to fix a gas leak for the safety certificate. Even if they do it doesn't look like I will be moving it far this weekend, and I need to get it to Oxford before the 1st Novemeber when they close the locks!

Thanks, I certainly don't have luck on my side at the moment. I suspect I am going to have to figure out how to move her there by road. :-(

The EA has altered the closure dates to 5th November to accomodate school half-term holidays.

What do you mean - 'retrim'? N.B. This time I am not trying to pull your leg.

At first I thought you meant upholsterly and wanted to ask advice. But 'skirting areas' makes me unsure. Post explanation and if possible pics please!

Well Moxy, the table, bar area and worktop fronts are finished in Gold anodised aluminium (!) and although the fronts were servicable, the table and bar were scruffy and scuffed to bits, so I got 7 metres of cream vinyl, and recovered the table, bar, and had enough left over for the skirting areas in the saloon...

The Bedroom decor was complete with a little more 'Red'...

Then we oiled all the interior Teak which was looking a bit dry, which bought back a decent colour, and made it all lovely and smooth to touch!

New name now applied, lost fender replaced and nearly every electrical accessory working!

It has switches which appear to be connected but do nothing, I'll have to look into those

All looking pretty good now, a month or two of continued polishing and affection, and she'll start to shine, but thats a 'Next year' job after the hull polish, antifoul and full service. I think the tanks will take £300 to top up...

Your bed spread is a bit 'tarts boudoir' for me but but you suggested it would be a bit funky Otherwise she is very lovely and you must be very pleased to own her.

Good job with the yellow vinyl too.
