Congratulations on your luck. I actually would not classify a Dufour as an AWB.
I fully take your point about the interiors of some older boats, but there are many 2nd hand boats with gorgeous interiors, for example,(dare I say it) some of the earlier Bavarias before the company went into mass production mode.
I love my friends early Jeaneau SO39.
I think if you're trying out a new hobby, good secondhand has less depreciation than new if it doesn't turn out to be your cup of tea, and its easy to research types of secondhand boat that will suit you requirements through things like the Good Yacht Guide.
