Dear one and all

I am considering moving the boat to Ocean Village.

Your comments, good and bad, would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Howard

Good things:

No locking in and out, always have access.
Well sheltered
Very helpful staff
Secure
RSYC is there! /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Merchants is worth a visit....
Good parking

Bad things:

There is building work going on, can be a bit noisy, it is set to complete in the not too distant future
The facilities need updating a bit, I have been advised that this is going to happen soon /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
Price is a bit high! I guess that applies to most places.... /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

Over all, it is an excellent marina, I have had some minor upsets, however the staff have been very helpful and seem to take a keen interest in making sure we are happy.

Worth a look...... /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Hear, Hear to that, we are very happy at OV, couple of issues but even Jon Eads the MD of MDL has been open enough to agree a meet to discuss to try and improve. Can't say fairer than that IMHO. Look forward to seeing you there if you decide to come on in. Mind You, hope you've got a pretty fast rib for the OV Rib races as there has been some serious fighting talk on here recently!! Paul

Have you looked at any of the other marinas around the OV area, we are at Shamrock Quay which is just up river from OV and it's nice here, they are in the process of re-arranging the pontoons at the moment so there may be a better chance of getting a berth there than at OV. The facilities aren't too bad either we have a brand new toilet/shower block and there are plenty of shops at hand, the greatest benifit is that you don't have a load of flats overlooking you and tourists wandering around.

We have been at OV for about 18 months and think it's a great marina. Access is 24 hours, plus it is very sheltered. There are good facilities on site including a small Tesco, RSYC, 2 restaurants, 2 cinemas and only a short stroll to the Oxford Street area which has loads of restaurants and bars.

There is a load of building work which can be a pain, but they only work Sat mornings. They will be there for the next two years I guess.

Someone mentioned Shamrock Quay. That too is a nice marina with new facilities, but not much outside it. It is on a very industrial part of the river Itchen and does get invaded with Southampton fans every two weeks as the stadium is just down the road. It also has lots of engineers and boat maintenance companies on site and hard standing. OV has neither!

We were at Shamrock Quay last year. The facilities are super, the biggest problem is the gravel works over the river. When it's dry, and the wind blows in the right direction, your boat get's covered!!!! We're in at OV this season, it's one of the beauties of been with MDL, the ability to move about. Seems like there's a good bunch up there, looking forward to the rib event!!

I too am at Shamrock Quay, can't fault them! They are even giving me a ring today to check that my tube heaters are working... Dust is a bit annoying in the summer but worth it to be tucked away from passers by and tourists. I looked at OV but couldn't deal with the thought of sitting on deck with friends on a friday night sipping wine with 100 people looking down on us! Just my 2pennith!

Thanks all for comments, greatly appreciated.

Have been offered 'J' hammerhead in OV and 2 hammerheads in SQuay

On balance will probably go with OV, daughter in Winchester Col and OV easier for her to get to and closer to town.

Look forward to meeting you all this summer.

howard

ps. I have an avon 320 jet rib.

confirm what they all say, have enjoyed OV lots, even with the Building Works, not so noticeable on J pontoon side.

See you, I'm on K
