Dear all,

I would like to register my interest in crewing on an ocean passage (600 miles plus) in August/September – and wondered if anyone knew of any such opportunities.

I have just completed the written (astronav) section of my Yachtmaster Ocean ticket, and am free from the 24th August to the 19th September, when I start work again. The passage has to be minimum non-stop distance of 600 miles, so Northern Spain or Portugal to the UK would probably qualify, for example.

In terms of experience, I have sailed a significant number of miles as crew and skipper. The most extended of these was a ten-week cruise around Europe as skipper of a 36ft sailing yacht. I also have experience of working aboard the American topsail schooner Pride of Baltimore II, and recently spent a month crewing on a classic yacht in the Mediterranean. I am 23 years old, work hard and have a good standard of fitness. I have my Yachtmaster Offshore, VHF certificate, and a number of First Aid qualifications. I attach my CV for further reference.

It would be fantastic if anyone knew of anything! Many thanks for your help.

do you wish to complete such a passage as a prerequisite to the ocean yachtmaster certificate of competence examination ?

i stand to be corrected but my understanding is that such a passage must be undertaken as either skipper or mate - not as crew.
