I guess it depends on what you are doing and what you expect out of a club. Last count they had over 3000 members so somebody thinks its worth it.
We were out at an OCC bash a couple of night ago here in Grenada.

The port officer network has come in very handy for us over the years. They have helped us sort some problems. They have an active Facebook group and a huge knowledge base. If you intend cruise far and wide, its a good club to be a member of

Interesting. I'm a member of the Cruising Association but tbh I've not really found much value out of it lately. There's supposed to be a representative in Guadeloupe but I never had a response to email, text, or phone calls to him.
If OCC is better and cheaper then maybe I should be reconsidering.

I think of the various organisations in terms of circles of interest and Venn diagram. Only my interpretation; feel free to disagree with me🤓

RYA is like British Canoeing; very good for entry level and pushing the sport in public and government but really don't seem to care much about your average cruiser/paddler. More interested in being into the Olympics etc.

Cruising Association is like the British Mountaineering Council; they both support leisure activity with their members at practical level. I'd say that since we left the EU the CA's support has been superb. However, the overlap with the OCC at the further flung parts of the world means that the latter is probably preferable for cruisers in those areas.

The RYA I join purely for ICC every now and then. I won't be joining OCC unless I go oceanwards again. But, in the middle of several seasons of cruising the Baltic, I shall keep my CA membership. Their cruising area handbooks and the cruising app make pilot books almost redundant.

All three are excellent organisations. You just need to join the one/s that are suitable for you.
