Is anyone else suffering from the forums slowing to a crawl, or even failing to respond, from time to time? Has been happening for a week or so, and tends to last a few minutes before bouncing back to normal. I don't think its my ISP since other sites seem normal during these periods: also the main ybw.com site .... only seems to be the forums.

Re: Occasional Forum Slow-down

I have found this as well. Especially liable to sloth when entering the first posting of a session

Yes, me too. It seems to be worse in the evenings: I'd put it down to heavy traffic on the forums.

The fact that so many have replied indicating the same problem is no surprise at all. Think of it this way.......

The forum is hosted on a server with a certain connection speed (normally a T1 connection which can handle plenty of traffic) . The more connections made to the forum the slower it will seem.

I always explain to my customers that internet traffic can be compared to plumbing. The fatter the pipe, the quicker the flow. The more feeds off a pipe, the slower the flow.

The nature of a forum is one in which a poster may post a question and then find he/she is hitting refresh every few seconds, anxious for a reply. Each refresh of the page is another 'hit' on the forum. Database driven sites in particular suffer from high traffic as each 'hit' draws processor power.

Being popular has a price to pay.
