Hi,

I am considering putting my own mooring down in the Gareloch / Helensburgh area in the Firth of Clyde.

Basically what I think I have to do is find a spot and then apply via the Crown Estates to drop the mooring. However, the Crown Estates refer to the Clyde Mooring Association and I cant find any information on them. The Clyde Cruising Club is a member of this association but a 2 month old query with them has went unanswered.

So my question is how straight forward is it to find a spot, get permission and lay a mooring somewhere in the areas mentioned above? I know both areas are quite full of moorings. The boat is 41 foot, 10 tonnes, 1.5 m draught.

Any guidance on establishing a private mooring in the upper F of C would be appreciated. If you know of one for sale in the area please let me know.

Many Thanks

JayBee - Thanks. I gave them a call and they offer everything I need. This will save me a small fortune.

Hi, how did you get on with this mooring? Did they allow it? I am looking at a property in Dunoon and would like to do the same.

In the end my work contracts were extended and reducing overheads was no longer a priority. Instead I have been flitting around marinas on the FOC and West Coast.
