Anyone know what the timetable is for the opening of Oban Bay Marina - assuming it is still going ahead!
Also, what is likely to be the maximum stay permitted, being that it is to be a 'transit' marina. For example, could you base your boat there for say a month of day sails / and maybe the odd overnight away.

Well there ain't nothing there yet, so don't plan on parking up there any time soon.
There doesn't seem to be any up to date info on their website, just a lot of historical background stuff.

Why on earth would you want to park your boat in front of a noisy, crowded street for a month in the west highlands?

Even Dunstaffanage would be preferable.....

I could buy into that if the Oban Inn was open and I could swap feckin Tesco for The Kitchen Garden...can I just say " Old Raj Gin" ?

I didn't say I wanted to. It was intended as a 'could you' example to determine the parameters of the 'Transit' conditions.

Curious as to why you would say "Even" when you refer to Dunstaffnage. Any significance in that?

It's also close to a busy main road, the last thing I want to hear when on mah wee boatie the local boy racers flogging their 1.1 Saxo's out to Connel ...

Good point, hadn't thought of that. I am currently swithering between Craobh and Dunstaffnage for next summer.

Still no opinions on how long you will be able to stay at Oban Bay Marina given its 'transit' or 'transient' status.

Hopefully the TRANSIENT Marina at Oban will be just that. I expect there will be strong financial encouragement to move on, and let others in. I am also not sure what the shelter from waves is to be. There may well be times that you wouldn't want to be there.

I have to say I enjoyed my years in Kerrera when it was Oban Yachts. With Oban just across the water when you want anything or Oban over there across the water when you wanted a quiet life. People used to complain about the ferry trip but as far as we were concerned it kept all but the folk who kept their boats in the yard away.

I agree Kerrera is pleasant, but for me only as a night stop - no convenient car parking if you were based there for the season and having to use the yard ferry, whilst novel the first time, it would just become an inconvenience.

The pontoons in Oban will probably have the same problems of all others like that which have been put in at harbours up the west coast over the last decade or so. The transit berths will become squeezed out over a few years to be used exclusively by locals and fishermen.

As to Kerrera, I like it with the ferry across and agree it keeps the place quite but convenient to visit Oban, however the cost is becoming expensive.

Besides that.... Oban heaves with tourists. Kerrera at least is fairly quiet :)

West / N west - Oban itself will be very uncomfortable... by all means go there when it is built.

If you take the Groove- Craobh-eee option your car will have an easier time of it now that the road into the village is being repaired.

Craobh would be my choice although Ardfern is the better chandler and repair option...

Is the repair to allow them to go ahead with the village expansion? I believe that was one of the reasons given for it not having been taken forward along with power that would have to be brought in from Port Ann one Loch Fyne at a cost of several million beer tokens.

Don't mention the road!

That road into Craobh was one of the reasons that I moved on. So many buckled alloy wheels, it drove me round the bend. Goodness knows how Ferraris and Lamborghinis, of which I saw a few, found a way in there.
There were other reasons for leaving, but the road was pretty high on the list.

I think that they will need a lot more water than can be provided by the tiny reservoir before they could kick start any more building there...
