I'm venturing forth this season into the Oare and Alde for the first time.

Am in an O/b'd Hunter 23 and seeking to pottter up to Snape if possible.

I'm told the entrance and exit is pretty trick - does anyone have any special tips??

Are there any visitor moorings up at Aldeborough or is it decent holding up there?

I think you will enjoy the entrance. Springs are more fun than neaps but no one seems to come to any real harm. It's the best bit of the Ore as I find the place very stark and bland apart from the very interesting wild life.

If it's rough weather, give this, and the Deben a miss ( unless a local regular with extra bottle ) and head for Harwich instead. Try again later. I draw 4' 6" and have entered the Ore at low water on a calm neap.

Orford and the castle are definitely worth a wander plus of course Aldeburgh.

After Aldeburgh, with any draft above about 3' 6" , you will find it more bother than it's worth in my humble opinion. Much better to have a long lazy trip in the tender nice and early so you can have a long lazy lunch in the pub before the tide turns.

Hopefully, we will all soon have the new entrance charts on the Net to see how things go for this season.

What a great time of the season this is !

That's good advice.

If you haven'y got a copy of "East Coast Rivers" ( a YM publication!) you need to get one.

If you do go above Aldeburgh in the big boat, start early on the flood. There is a "possible" overnight anchorage hole under Iken Cliff, but it is a lot more possible at neaps than at Springs. Alternatively you can go on the wall at Snape and dry in the mud.
