My dad recently had to change his marine insurer as his old one would not accept the over 70's, his present one will cover up to 80's.
Are there any insurers who do not have this age clause? perhaps someone on here has already resolved this one?

I second the comments about SAGA - cheap and good customer service. I called then after suggestions on the forum that they were too cheap. The specific suggestions were that they did not allow night sailing - not true; and that they did not allow single handed - the policy allows trips of 18 hours singlehanded.

Excellent cruising range - Elbe to La Rochelle rather than Brest which most other insurers offered.

No I've had the pleasure of a conversation with them........... WHAT U SAY..... PARDON

Interseting enough they will insure old farts for racing too !

There only seems to be one of them and she is called Melanie. When I extended our crusing range a couple of years back to do a single trip across the Bay of Biscay I called two or three times in as many days and she recognised my voice. I quite like customer service like that.

The complaints about SAGA seem to refer to the restrictions to cruising they put on, but as a young baby in the cruising world I can not comment on personal experience.

Do you know that these restrictions are actually supposed to be. I wonder if these restrictions may be some sort of urban (or marine) myth, seeded by the more expensive insurance companies.

It comes up on scutts quite often, rather than say something that is wrong and hence libelous may I suggest you ask on scuttlebutt and get any info straight from the horses mouth.

I do know that many on there do actually suggest SAGA to people who ask, so it obviously suits some peoples cruising and sailing habits.

With regard to Saga insurance I tried to get Yacht insurance for my Hurley 22 which has been moored in Torquay Inner Harbour for the last 5 years with St Margrets, only to be told that they would not insure the boat during the winter unless it was moored in the Outer Harbour Marina?
The Inner Harbour is really protected from all wind directions even at gale force, when arguing this point with the Saga staff they were adament that they would not insure the Inner Harbour in the winter, I was so digusted that I went elsewhere, I have never heard of any other Company with the same attitude towards Torquay Inner Harbour , so it does not surprise me that they have issues about other insurance risks
