If like me, you were wondering if any commercial vessels still use Oakley Creek up to the explosives factory, they do! For the first time in 7 years saw a coaster head up there Sunday flying a red flag and displaying a red light etc.
Hamford Water was unusally empty probably due to the brisk winds this weekend.
Locals will probably say yeah ships up there all the time? Shame, would be a lovely anchorage. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Thats wierd... i've never seen them use it until the weekend of the Pirate weekend, where we saw one do just the same.... and that was a month ago

Barbican_Bill tells me that apparently they always go on a Sunday, about once a month....

Guess its worth staying out of their way!!!!

Oakley Doakely ! Thanks for the info.

Guess they only go up on Springs as there isn't much water down the bottom.

There seems like a reasonable hole down the bottom to starboard before the creek turns to port and the quay. Apparently it is wise to radio the pilots to check if there are going to be any movements before anchoring. Have to admit, I though that coasters had finished using the creek.

Great place at half tide to see the seals.

Wonder what the cargo is.

- well, if they drop it whilst unloading it there would be a whole new anchorage for us to use (with no draught restriction!!!) /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I was anchored at Stone Point on Friday lunchtime.
There was a lot of smoke and explosions coming from the factory area. Perhaps another reason not to anchor nearby.

Exactly what they want you to believe say I !

Why are those seals a funny colour eh eh !

Nothing to do with gun powder at all. Clearly something else is leaking out.

I suggest an East Coast Sailor's (ECS) sortie with full blacking up, passwords and tight lips all round to find out.

Who's in ?
