Well spent last weekend clearing out the boat - ok for a few hours on Saturday after we had our last cruise of the season down river. Only saw one other boat. Back on Sunday for me as we got back later than expected on Saturday due to my point blank refusal to stop cruising. Boat yard now tell me she is out of the water so tomrrow I will be there again to put on the tarpaulins for the winter.

As if by magic by the time I got home on Sunday a list, a huge list, of jobs had been posted by SWMBO on the kitchen notice board. Unfortunately not one of them involved my beloved boat or the river. It seemed to indicate something about house and garden maintenance (urgh).

I wish I could keep her in all winter but as our stretch has been known to flood out she comes. Also saves me a divorce I think. But the grand scheme from oldest son and I is to sling the Dinghy and outboard into the car and disappear for the odd day before the paint tins come out. At least then I get on the river for a while.

So how do you guys cope with the loss of your boats over winter- i hate it lol

Look! listen to an old hand. Stand up for your rights and demand certain privileges if you are giving up the boat for the winter. Ask for a clean pinafore as a starter. When you have won that concession look to gaining other things like a nice patterned tea towel. Then slowly work your way up to a real biggie like maybe a cup of tea while you slave for her.
