Having caught some rope and tied up the props, I lifted the outdrives in order to cut the rope off.
This is the first time I've ever lifted the outdrives and when I put them back to full trim, instead of reading -4 on the trim indicator they wound themselves beyond -8 and then to a positive figure - I think it was 56 - and the red LED Illuminates.
I now have to press the "lift" button in order to trim forward, now from -8 etc.
Anyone got any ideas what I've done and what I should do to fix it?

Cheers

Are they both doing the same thing and do they stay in the desired position when set? My outdrive trim indicators are always giving strange readings depending on what else is going on. I used to worry about it but having satisfied myself that nothing is happening I have ignored it and will get the potentiometers looked at during the winter.
Are the drives actually in the positions indicated ?- it could be that, like me, you have disturbed something electrical. Try a squirt of WD40 around the pots.

Yes, both drives are doing the same, I was wondering if all I need do is reset the sensors at the back of each steering arm - they are trimming ok - just have different reading on trim indicator.

Sounds like your senders are out, and want reseting. If the reading is going from -8 to +56, would appear to be going off one end of pot track and picking up the other end.
