I would like to buy a new propeller for the Yamaha 6hp on my Etap 22i. Does anyone know if this would be a standard prop or a different pitch as it is quite a large boat for the engine?
Also is there a good place to buy one on the web?

I run a 5hp honda on my eboat (22ft). I know there is a tourqe difference so one prop for planing (speed) and one for grunt (pushing a displacement hull), don't have much of a clue beyond that so I just call the dealer.

Seamark Nunn have been helpful in providing spares. I would give them a call and they will be able to advise you on the best prop for the job. They will then give you a stock number so you buy on line. It might not be listed on the website, that was certainly the case with impellor kit I ordered.

We have the Yamaha 8 2 stroke which I belive is the same basic engine. My understanding is that for pushing sailing boats yamaha do a propellor which is called a variable pitch (no moving parts) and is not a fixed number such as 8 but is more like 6 to 8. This is what we have and it works fine. Our local Yamaha dealer Ron Hale talked to me about this several years ago. I sorry I can not remeber the exact number or letter it has stamped on it.

Generally one would choose a prop with a smaller pitch (and if there is room for it a larger diameter) for a displacement hull than one you'd choose for a fast runabout.

For example my Evinrude Yactwin has a 9¼" diameter X 6½" pitch prop while the standard version of the same engine has an 8½ X 9" prop. Mine also has a greater blade area.

The best bet is to talk to your Dealer to see what props are available and which he recommends.

Do not buy the standard prop for this engine which is probably 8" or 9" pitch. You want the smallest pitch that Yamaha list.
If I were you I would be looking for a 6" pitch but Yamaha only list a 6.5" or a 7" "Dual thrust".
I am guessing that "Dual thrust" is Yamaha's name for a paddle bladed "Saildrive" prop which gives a good bite in reverse as well as forwards.
From memory the Yamaha 6 is a detuned twin cylinder 8 so should have plenty of torque. Accordingly either of those props should be fine. You won't get max revs with the 7" but with European petrol, detonation from running "too high a gear" shouldn't be a problem.
