Bloody hell, it's bad up here in Preston. I looked at the barometer about midnight last night and it was 1013. It's currently 998 (0730). Just had the most violent squall run through here. I was actually having to hold on in the boat.

The pontoon moorings are certainly showing their stuff!

It's just not eased off since about 0130. Haven't slept a wink; not so much as five minutes.

Anybody else got it?

The North East is a lttle blustery. But I was safe and warm in my house. Are you living aboard still? What boat do you have now?

Good luck and Happy New Year.

Chimet went off rhe air about 6.30 this morning after registering a gust of 61 knots and a wave height of around 2.5metres. The whole Chimet chain is down, so maynot be the Bar beacon station swamped.

Channel Light Vessel recording seas of 5.5metres, and wind reports right along the S coast consistently 45 - 65mph

Glasgow airport is showing gusts of 78 kts on the 0820 METAR. Edinburgh only 61 kts. I'm off to walk the dog happy in the knowledge my boat is out of the water and in a cradle. Fingers crossed for no damage for anyone!

No. Its centered on just a small area of Preston. The rest of us have warm dry sunshine. :D

Even someone from the wrong Lancastian side of the Pennines is a northerner, so dont be such a soft southern wimp. Its just a bit fresh up there Nathan. Its windy when you take the dog for a walk and the lead is horizontal.

Worst storm this season for us.

N,
Worst storm this season based on the observation that the roof-tiles were rattling, and the whole house was shaking, which never happened in any of the previous storms.....
Lost the power twice this morning, so hope it / they hang on in there.
I also hope everyone’s OK and if any (I do hope not) only minimal damage... :(
I’m off to make a couple of phone-calls to see if anyone needs any help down the club.
OG.

I spent new Year's Eve aboard watching the Faro fireworks and their reflection on the perfectly flat water. We now have a force 2.I used to live in St.Annes and don't regret the move.

Very windy over here in the East as well. Bedroom window faces SW and it was blowing a hoolly all night. Traffic reports full of roads blocked because of trees - possibly weakened by the December storms - as well as overturned lorries. Foth and Tay bridges shut as usual, but so is the new one at Alloa and the Erskine. 90mph measured at Glasgow.

Westerly Berwick wrecked in River Irvine last gale

Probably the safest place for her- as long as it's a good mooring... ( and if it's survived 4 wee gales of wind like we're having then it must be.)

A Westerly Berwick Ketch was wrecked in the River Irvine during the last gale when it broke away from its mooring. It was pounded against the old pier and ended up with a hole in the side you could walk into the hull. This gales feels just as bad as the last one so hope your boat is OK.
