Hi
A colleague showed me some paper charts for the west coast of france produced by nv charts.com in an A3 folio type atlas. They seemed well produced and attractive and are reasonably priced.
They look great but was wondering if anyone who has used them and found them to be reliable? I am particuarly interested in NV Atlas France FR5 Duaarnenez to Lorient and adjacent coasts.

thanks as always

I have FR6 - excellent, would also recommend the Bloc Marine 'Votre livre du board' 2019 as a cheaper and IMHO better alternative to Reeds - £29 delivered from Amazon France

The Danish Hydrographic Office demand a considerable fee for the use of their information [the Danish govt has said they shd be self supporting]. NV have refused to pay this, despite accessing hydrographic information [eg Notice to Mariners]. There is an on going court case in Germany.
Some of the Hydrographic Office demands are rather unreasonable.

Beware NV for Denmark. Otherwise, as you say, nicely produced.

So in practical terms, does that mean the current NV charts for Denmark are unreliable? Or that they are OK, but may not be available or updated in future?

I used them last year when we cruised Britanny and the Vendee. They are superb, and for me gave me confidence to sail in the relatively shallow waters around that area. I wish they were available for the Spanish Rias where we are now.

I seem to recall they also come with the charts in digital form in the same pack?

Is this on a CD or some other format? Do they work ok, are they PC based?
Thanks

There is a digital version - I didn’t use it. I think you get a code to enable you to download it from t’internet

I am sure that 99,99% of NV info on Denmark is correct. But given they don't have official access to the data, there might be a slight problem.
I'm not slagging off NV or the Danish hydrographic office; as I said, there are on going legal proceedings. However, I think the hydrographic office is going to find itself on the wrong side of the Laffer curve.

Correct. Early ones came with CD rom but think now just download code.
I have the entire NV packs for Norway, Sweden and Denmark on my Android phone, iPad and home PC. Not quick as slick as Navionics but paper packs plus multi device electronic charts is a brilliant deal.

Bought the FR1 chart last summer. I was sceptical at first but the price was attractive and the downloads looked like they might be useful.

I was impressed. The charts seem accurate, clear, well printed and and you get a downloadable version that works well on iPhone and iPad (and possibly other platforms, but I don't recall).
