Can any Body help?

I lost a unlock nut from the mast crane on an older Selden mast.
It’s not a metric size, but it looks about 10mm. An m10 nut only goes on about a 1/4 turn.

Anybody know what size it could be? I can’t get the bolt out to take it to an ironmongers.
Could it be whitworth, UNC etc? How do I measure it?

Why not post your solution for all of us to see & learn from?
I don’t have a solution. I suggested op sent me a pic and as my mast is on trestles at the moment I offered to measure mine for him. I didn’t want to publish my email address so sent it to him in a pm. Ironically he hasn’t replied.

Oh, ok. Thread gauge is the way to go then. From a diameter of the thread & its pitch from a gauge all likely threads can be identified. There are tables online that will give the details, often fastener suppliers have them.
