Hi Guys
Bought a new trailer for an 18 ft centre console boat. What would be the recommended number of rollers for the boat to be supported safely ( Not to damage hull ) while stored at garage approx. 8 months.?
Dealer only gave me 4 sets. 8 for starboard side and 8 for port side ( Total number of single rollers 16 ). While browsing net I discovered the exact model had 16 rollers 8 and 8 at stern only and 12 at transom 6 and 6 . Dealer said he gave me to boat be supported safely enough but I am not convinced.

Is there no rollers under the "keel"? Shouldn't the boat, ideally, be resting on the lowest part of the hull with the side rollers providing limited support?

Yes there is one roller at the stern under the keel. Do you think the side rollers provide enough support to the hull? Im not experienced and you help is appreciated because i am not trusting the man who sold me the trailer.

My experience is primarily with bigger boats and putting them on the hard stuff so my opinion regarding trailers should be taken With a fair amount of salt. In general I'd probably prefer a couple of keel rollers more, I would also try to make sure that the load on the side rollers is as evenly distibuted as possible to limit the risk of damage to the hull. Not knowing exactly what the trailer looks like, what the boat weights and so forth it's hard to to speculate about what's the proper number of rollers, but if the trailer usually comes equipped with a certain number of rollers in a certain configuration I'd at least ask the seller why my trailer isn't set up the usual way.

If you want somebody qualified, with experience trailing a boat of your size and not just an armchair admiral like myself, to answer the question at hand you should probably wait for somebody else to chip in or try asking at http://www.rib.net/forum/f49/ where most of the users seems to keep their boats on trailers.
