Just got back from helping my friend deliver his Hanse 371 to Cork for his summer cruise.

Watched the fireworks from Gosport Tue eve, set off 0400 on Weds morning. We then spent the next 18 hours under motor with no usefull wind, then woosh!!!!!

The low, SW Ireland started to take effect, by the time we went around Longships in glorious sun we were at the top end of a F5 W - SW which then went W for the crossing to Cork, a fine reach and a big Atlantic swell for 139 miles which we covered in 21 hours, avg speed 6.6 knts!! Who cared about the rain!!?

We were alongside in Royal Cork YC by 19.00 on the Friday eve, first pint of Murphys by 21.30.

Just hope I get as good a crossing in my own boat down to Alderney on Sunday.

Yes, it would be good to hear how he got on, 'cos I know he was starting on Weds PM. the weather was degrading as we crossed the Celtic Sea. Sat in Cork the wind was blowing old boots.

We knew the weather was going to blow up, so we were very carefull to do a good job making our warps fast.

Come on! The last thing we would want is to have our second pint interupted!

Great news Stephen, good to know that John got Nirvana to Cork OK and that you all had a good time on the trip. Safe travels for your weekend crossing. We came back from Cherbourg last weekend, very lumpy and a NE wind for good measure - the Sturgeon box was well used by all on board!
Good to know the bigger, better more improved ETAP is out again on the water and doing its thing. Have a great summer!

Ireland in the Sun!

So how many Scuttlebutt boats are going to be in Ireland this summer? We have just located our boat to Dingle for the cruise back down to Cork starting towards the end of July, we hope to be in Crosshaven by 10th August.

Now there's a question! You would think after 30 years of wedded bliss I would have all the answers - hmmm. No Jill has not been back on board, however I did launch a new stealth campaign with my daughters last month and we had a great weekend in the Solent in good conditions which has gone some way to rebuilding confidence. Watch this space M'Lord - I have a further cunning plan! I am sure I will get Jill back on this summer, just need to get the right conditions and not be over ambitious.
Well as the actress said to the Bishop - how you coping with all that extra length? So many cabins now......

I had the sail of my life across to Kilmore Quay and back from Cardiff last week.Perfect NE breeze .Arrived early evening on Sunday so time to enjoy the delights of Kehoes pub on arrival.

Time was very limited,I would love a month or three to explore Ireland.
