im in two minds now, was thinkin of a planing hull, falcon 27,
to use in solent and coastal hops, but ultimately, want to go to france, and alike, did look at semi ph like nimbus 2600 and a scand 27, both good boats and write ups on them ,but just didnt have the speed ,ultimately her who rules all ,requires motor home on water with sun terrace ,and i want speed!!!!
please help the 25k is burning hole in my pocket
and i need to get out there!!!!
thanks rob landlocked

Out of the boats mentioned the falcon would be the most comfortable in a bit of chop.
The falcon is one of the softest rides in its class but at the expense of accommodation.

It's not clear from your post what your dilemna is. Is it that you think a semi-d will be better to get to France, or is it that the semi-d designs you've looked at have more space on board than the Falcon, so your wife prefers them?

thanks for comment
the dilema is she and the lad like the smoothness of the nimbus and scand[although there not actually classed as semi dis there underwater planning] whatever that is
compared with the banging and thumping at speed of the falcon

Read the original post Alf !!!!

Sorry will look now and get back......

Ok... Scand 27 ... probably one of the most popular boats in Norway over the last decade. Relatively fast and very roomy, with excellent seakeeping..

Living space is light and airy and willwith a reasonable sized engine will give a good turn of speed. Very well proportioned family boat and should be a good handler in tight positions during pilotage and mooring.

The Nimbus may appear to look a bit more dated than the Scand, and will probably lack some of the Scand's spacious feel both on and below deck. Excellent seakeeping and build quality, and should give good handling in all ranges of speed, including being predicable during mooring manouvers.

Cannot comment much on the Falcon, as I have no personal experience...

My old Nimbus 27 has looked after Me in all sorts of weather.
Origional Blurb Says 20 flat out and 16 cruise.
She was born in 1984.
She does 13.5 cruise and 16 flat out.

8 kts through some real Snot last year.
When the Fast Lads turned back

Trouble with 'small' planning hulls.
IE stuff below 30 ft, when it gets choppy they have to slow to displacement speeds.
Uncomfortable and and uneconomical imho.

Rubbish, you either go faster, so skip over waves. Or slow right down, so very economical. My 21' planing hull manages fine in all sorts of conditions. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If you slow down to displacement speed with a big petrol engine.
Then 'tweek' the throttle for the flatter bits of sea you will consume fuel inneficiently.
Your 21ft planing hull will not, catergorically, not manage fine in all sorts of conditions.

OK She will get You Home.
Safe and sound etc.

OK modern planing hulls are tremendous and much improved.
The Falcon 27 the OP mentioned and probably Your 21 ft Clunker are not at the cutting edge of todays technology /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

yes it will, as I've been in all sorts of conditions in it. At under 3 knts, it can stay out in rough weather for ages, with minimal fuel consumption.

At under 3kts you'll be going whichever way the tide takes you
