Novice looking to sail in SE

I've never sailed, but i'm looking to get out on the water and learn.

Sorry, basically i'm interested in the idea of sailing but haven't tried yet.
I live near Sittingbourne, Kent and am looking for a friendly individual to pass on some knowledge.
I looked at courses but they're quite expensive for someone who's not even sure it's something they want to pursue.

Is there anything else i should disclose?

might be worth looking up some local sailing clubs picking a couple , then go to a club night as a guest, find one that you feel comfortable. Most will have a notice board with crewing opportunities .

Try ashdown sailing club, they are based in kent but have a lot of boats on the south coast and are happy to take novices out on their boats. Ive just been out with them and have no experience.
