UKHO Permanent/Temporary/Preliminary Notices
1. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - Two reductions of depth on the Aldeburgh Ridge marking shallowing slightly to the east and north east parts of the sands.
2. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - One reduction of depth and unusually one increase of depth (to 1.6m) at the entrance of Lowestoft Harbour.
3. ENGLAND - East Coast - Works. Channel limits. - This notice amends the limits of the Harwich Deep Water channel following the substantial project deepening the channel to 16m. There are three limits quoted as the most significant changes but (unusually) I am not illustrating the changes as they are so small.
4. NETHERLANDS - NM Blocks. Buoyage. Marine farm. Depth. Legend. - A new marine farm on the north side of the Roompot, to the Oosterschelde, Holland: includes one deletion of depth in the middle of the farm. A new margin note is added by an UKHO block.
5. ENGLAND - East Coast - Dredged areas. Dredged depths. - This is small detail: a revised limit of the dredged area at the Parkeston Quay RoRo on the River Stour (at Harwich)
6. ENGLAND - East Coast - Wrecks. - Depth over an established wreck in the Medway Approach Channel is reduced to 17.9m. Unlikely to hinder leisure craft as we shouldn’t be there and has enough water!
7. ENGLAND - East Coast - Depths. - Two reductions of depth west of the Thames Barrier and an increase of depth at the Barrier Garden Pier east of the Thames Barrier.

1. RIVER THAMES - SEA REACH - SHELLHAVEN S-JETTY DREDGING - on or about 3rd October 2023, contractors instructed by Shell UK Oil Products Ltd. will commence dredging operations for Shellhaven S-Jetty. The general location is indicated by the red box on the charlet (see the Local List at Notices to Mariners These dredging operations will be carried out by the Water Injection Dredging method and will be conducted during ebb tides only. The area to be dredged comprises the Shellhaven S-Jetty berth box. The dredging is expected to be complete within 7 days of commencement. Requirements to proceed with caution or at slow speed will be made in accordance with the procedures set out in the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, ‘Section 4’ with the International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee’. The display of these signals will be in addition to any lights or shapes required under local regulations and the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea. Further details will be broadcast as needed by London VTS on VHF channel 68.
2. RIVER THAMES - LOWER POOL - WAPPING POLICE PIER & ENGINEERING PIER - FENDER REPLACEMENT OPERATIONS - On or about Monday 9th October 2023, marine contractors working on behalf of the Marine Policing Unit will
be undertaking fender replacement operations on the Police Pier and Engineering Pier, which will take approximately 10-weeks. These operations will be undertaken from and supported by modular pontoons to replace the fendering to
the piers. Tug PROTECTOR will be in attendance to manoeuvre the modular pontoons around the works site. Operations are expected to usually take place Monday to Friday between the hours of 07:00 to 18:00. The chartlet indicates the approximate footprint of the marine works. Requirements to proceed with caution or at slow speed will be made in accordance with the procedure set out in the Port of London Authority’s Port Information Guide, under ‘London VTS’, ‘Section 4’ with the International Code Flags ‘Romeo Yankee (RY) displayed.

HARWICH HARBOUR - Dredging Operations – Barney - Mariners are advised that on or about 1 October 2023 the Barney will commence dredging operations, working throughout the Harwich Haven area and River Stour for approximately 6 weeks. Detailed dredger movements can be obtained from Harwich VTS on VHF Channel 71.
4. River Medway Approaches - Grain Spit – Nearshore Works - “nearshore” works to install a sub-sea pipe are taking place between 27th September 2023 and 30th September 2023. The works involve the towing of a pipe out across
Grain Spit where it will be drawn back through a sub-sea bore hole to connect with the shore. The nearshore works for HDD3 will commence on Wednesday 27 September 2023, with the tow out of the pipe and installation into the bore hole commencing on Thursday 28 September 2023. Nearshore works for HDD3 are due to be complete by 30th September 2023. All nearshore works on Grain Spit are currently scheduled to conclude before 14 November 2023. A table is included in the Notices which can be found in the above quoted webpage. The table includes details of the scheule and assets. All craft passing the area should give the works craft adequate sea room and reduce speed and wash accordingly. River Medway - Gillingham Reach - Chatham Lock Approaches - Dredging Operations - dredging operations are due to take place in the approaches to Chatham Locks, dredging will commence on 06/10/2023 pm and is expected to be completed over two ebb tide periods. Operations will be focussed around the area highlighted below and will be carried out by the water injection dredger ‘Mersey’ who will maintain a listening watch on VHF Channel 74 at all times. ‘Mersey’ will display the required signals for respective operations by day and night, all vessels are requested to pass with caution, minimise their wash and monitor VHF Ch.74 at all times. Further information may be obtained from Medway VTS on VHF Channel 74, call sign “Medway VTS” or telephone as above.
6. PORT OF GREAT YARMOUTH - Bathymetric Survey Works – Herring Bridge - Bathymetric survey activity will be undertaken within Great Yarmouth River Port; survey location will be in the area of the Herring Bridge by Survey
Vessel INVESTIGATOR. Survey work will commence 3rd October 2023 at 09:00hours with survey completed by 17:00hours 4th October 2023. Due caution should be exercised when in transit past this location including observance to
maintaining safe distance. SV INVESTIGATOR can be contacted on VHF Ch12.
7. East Coast of England - The Wash - Approaches to Wisbech - Wisbech Anchorage,”W1” lightbuoy and AIS AtoN off station - W1 light buoy (52° 55’.703N 000°16’.524E) is off station and the AIS “Aid to Navigation” signal should be disregarded. The buoy should be recovered later today (021023) and returned to Kings Lynn for repair. A replacement buoy will be established in due course. Please contact the Harbour Office for further information.
8. Potton Buoys – River Roach - Potton No 2 Lighted Buoy in approximate position 51° 34.284N, 000° 49.081E and Potton No 5 Lighted Buoy in approximate position 51° 34.650N, 000° 48.875E are both back on station.
No news about Havengore Bridge.
