There! You never noticed that 2 weeks of the New Year have already gone by!

Permanent Notices

The Fog Signal on Gris Nez lighthouse has gone.

Preliminary Notices

Notice that there are "significant changes to depth and drying banks" in the off-lying banks off Lowestoft which will necessitate new editions of local charts in March. No detail is given at this stage but there will be a subsequent notice in due course.

Temporary Notices

There is an obstn in the deep water approach to Zeebrugge raised half a metre above the seabed. See chartlet for position but its not going to affect us.

Nothing from the Wind Farms as yet for this year.

I am carrying on with the extension of the monitoring across to Hook of Holland and down to Boulogne (as you can see from the above) but we will have to see just how busy that gets. I am plodding on with compiling last years list of this wider area delayed slightly by a whizzo new comfuter which should get rid of the annoying crashes on the drawing programmes.

This sounds a bit dodgy? I guess you have to assume the existing banks are getting bigger so give a bigger safety margin or could it mean new banks formed where previously there were none? Might be heading up that way early in season.

Does sound as though we ought to take notice. Obviously the corrections are too many for a NtM correction although they plan one for one of the charts involved - chart 106 -Cromer to Smith's Knoll and I guess we'll get that next week or shortly after. Clearly I will post that detail when it is published but it only clips the north of the area that this affects and therefore the change on that chart won't be much.

We may get a NtM by Trinity House if there are buoy moves as I suspect there may be. That's normally the earliest warning providing of course that the weather is ok to move buoys (THV Alert's dynamic positioning requires reasonable weather conditions).

I guess there is a fair bit to do. UKHO will be re-drawing their charts, Trinity House will have to do any necessary buoy moves and then notify those, Imray and other leisure market service providers will then have to decide whether the changes can be done by NtM or a new edition of their paper charts; then there are the electronic chart changes to be made. All quite a lot of business.

But I'll keep monitoring and will post details asap.
