1. Removal of the ship anchorage in Dover harbour;
2. Dangerous wreck close inshore just north of Sizewell. Not marked.
3. Reduced depth at the western entrance off the Admiralty Pier extension but nothing to worry leisure craft;
4. Revision of depths over two wrecks on The Would (north of Sea Palling) but both at over 18m;
5. Three oddly placed yellow special buoys adjacent to the Deep Water route into Zeebrugge;
6. Removal of lots of marks in the Rak van Scheelheok channel and a couple of changes on the way into Stellendam;
7. A restricted area marked by 4 unlit north cardinals close to the Dutch shore off Cadzand.

Temporary

1. New recreational guide for personal watercraft issued by the PLA. Available for download;
2. Three on the River Crouch: 1. Rice and Coles, new unlit mark on the sewer outfall. 2. Dredging operations in Burnham Yacht Harbour between now and June. 3. Fairway No 15 temporarily removed for maintainance;
3. Works to remove the redundant tide gauge in Lowestoft, east of the Bascule Brige;
4. A reduced depth (3.4m) in the approach channel to Lowestoft (from the north). Illustrated on the web site.

That's it.

Good question. I am guessing the answer is still yes and that this is done to remove a designated area which is marked by buoys - which cost money and perhaps they want to get rid of because no one uses the anchorage. But that's guess work.

I'll ask the question.

Further to the above: http://www.doverport.co.uk/marina/leisure-zone/ This shows that a major part of what was the anchorage is now a leisure zone for what looks like swimming and rowing. I guess so few yachts anchor there now that perhaps the area is otherwise designated. I have emailed them.

Anchorage area

Overlaying Dover Harbour's recreational area on a chart (purple pecked line) it seems that the traditional anchorage (inside red ellipse) just N of the anchorage buoys is now within this designated recreational area.

So the next question is - will they allow anchoring within the recreational area or do we now have to anchor in the old ship anchorage?

Just curious.

I've used the anchorage! Was rather a long time ago, now though, but I was looking at the harbour chart only the other day and pondering doing it again next time I'm headed that way.
I used the anchorage last year on a couple of occasions - on the 1st occasion I was there for 2+ days waiting for the weather. Other yachts used the anchorage as well but the majority went into the marina.

It's a bit rolly but, having seen the harbour tidal streams in the very useful PDF download (http://www.doverport.co.uk/downloads/Marina Guide 2015.pdf), I can now see why it's a bit more rolly at certain times of the day :p
