Local

1. Harwich - dredging, dredging, dredging - Dredging Operations – Felixstowe berth deepening -
Mariners are advised that capital dredging will shortly commence alongside Felixstowe number 6 berth. This project will involve a variety of vessels and operations described in the full notice that you can find on the Local List on: Notices to Mariners. Please note that dates are approximate and subject to change. From the 19 March 2022 to the 07 April 2022 the tug and tows will be operating within the Haven and approaches. From the 20 March 2022 to the 07 April 2022 the backhoe dredger Odin (63m LOA) will be towed to Felixstowe by the tug Duchess to undertake dredging operations on number 6 berth. The Odin will remain in the Felixstowe berth box and dredge the first 30m off number 6 berth, it is expected that dredge material will then be loaded into the split barges highlighted above and towed to the
disposal areas. The trailing suction hopper dredger Freeway (92.10m LOA) will also undertake dredging operations on Felixstowe number 6 berth. The survey vessel Porthos (11.4m LOA) will undertake survey operations in the Felixstowe vicinity.
2. Dredging Operations – Aase Madsen - From around the 16 March 2022, for a period of about 8 days, the grab dredger Aase Madsen (IMO: 7731751) will carry out trial boulder grab dredging operations in the main channel. The vessel (details in the Local List) will dredge previously identified surface boulders for disposal at sea and will be operating 12 hours (daytime) per day. The dredging contractor is the Van Oord / Boskalis Westminster Joint Venture appointed by Harwich Haven Authority to carry out the Harwich Haven Channel Deepening Project. The areas to be dredged include locations within the main channel referred to as areas B, C, and D, (see in the Local List on the above quoted page) and running from the Fort Buoy out to no. 1 and 2 buoys. (See sketch HHA: B - D). The vessel will position using its own propulsion at the site of the surface boulders and will use its grab crane to pick them up and place them in its hopper. Once the hopper is full, the vessel will proceed to the Inner Gabbard East disposal site where it will unload the boulders. The dredging is covered by the MMO licence held by Harwich Haven Authority: L/2020/00360/2. All vessels may be subject to Harwich VTS Traffic Organisation. Given the increased frequency of vessel movements and dredging operations mariners are reminded of the importance of regulated vessel reporting requirements and necessity to maintain a good lookout ahead and astern. Detailed vessel movements can be obtained from Harwich VTS on VHF channel 71.
3. Dredging Operations – Rotterdam - From around the 23 March 2022, the trailing hopper suction dredge Rotterdam (IMO number: 9229582) will start dredging in the deep water channel. The dredger will initially carry out a few days of trial dredging in areas F and G, before returning to complete area D and a section of area E (East of 1&2 buoys). (See attached sketches HHA: D and HHA: F&G on the Local List) During the dredging of area D, Channel Buoys No. 1 - 8 will need to be moved to temporary locations. This move will be subject to a separate Notice to Mariners. The Rotterdam will be disposing material in the Inner Gabbard East disposal site.
4. Dredging Operations - Backhoe dredger Goliath and Barges: From around 21 March 2022, for a period of about six weeks, the backhoe dredger Goliath (IMO number: 8342260) will be dredging in the main channel together with the self-powered, split-hopper barges, Pieter Caland (IMO number: 9516662) and Boussole: (IMO number: 9462627). The dredger will be supported by the tug, Duke of Normandy (IMO number: 9348429). The dredging contractor is the Boskalis Westminster / Van Oord Joint Venture appointed by Harwich Haven Authority to carry out the Harwich Haven Channel Deepening Project. The dredge area is a section of the main channel known as area C covering the whole width of the
main channel and running from Buoys 7&8 to the Rolling Ground Buoy. Within this area, the dredger will be working one section on the north side of the channel, east of the Platters Buoy, and one on the south side of the channel between the Pitching Ground and Number 8 Buoys. (See attached sketch HHA: C in the Local List).
5. River Medway – Chatham Lock Approaches - Dredging Operations - dredging operations are due to take place in the approaches to Chatham locks in Gillingham Reach. Dredging will commence on or around 20/03/2022 and is expected to take place over a period of 10 consecutive tides . Operations will be focussed on the southern side of the lock approaches and will be carried out by the water injection dredger ‘Borr’ who will maintain a listening watch on VHF channel 74. There is a chartlet and piccy of the 'vessel' in the Local List.
6. Approaches to King’s Lynn - Amendments to buoyage . - due to changes in the profile of the approach channel to King’s Lynn, the following amendments to buoyage took place on 14th March 2022: a) No. 24 light buoy was moved approx. 125m x 060°(T) to 52° 50’.072N 00°21’.815E. The above works were carried out by the buoying vessel St Edmund. Contact the Harbour Office for further information.
7. London Array Wind Farm - Amendment to date: the Jack-up Vessel “Wind Enterprise”, on behalf of Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy Ltd, will be on site from 27/03/2022 for approximately 1 week to carry out heavy lift operations.
As part of this work, a component exchange will take place within the Wind Farm at B09 and F05. Vessel: Wind Enterprise Jack-Up Vessel Wind Enterprise has a length of 101.95m and breadth of 40.2m. Equipment will be periodically deployed and suspended from the vessel crane during jack up operations. Turbine B09 is the 'right marker' for the south entrance to the doglet to Foulger's Gat so this may restrict out access. The notice on the Local List provides the contactnumbers should you want to use Foulger's Gat in that week.
