Only two Permanent:

1. UKHO announce they are issuing Edition 11 of the Leisure Folio SC5607 - Thames Estuary - Essex and Suffolk Coast on 26th January, 2017. So don't get the folio at the Boat Show yet! I would suggest anyone who wants the new Folio to go to Imray (web link on the NtM page: http://www.crossingthethamesestuary.com/page9.html). I understand the UKHO are planning to redo the full Admiralty River Blackwater chart some time this year.
2. Not the most exciting - small reduction of depth at the edge of the Westhinder ship anchorage - at 16.5m and then a contour change (at 10m) at the northern finger of the Oosthinder sand. Image of course as usual on the above page. There is a download available of the contour change from the Dutch HO. More hieroglyphic than the UKHO NtM!

Not surprising as it is still a holiday day today - no temporary NtM. I will cast a look over tomorrow in case there is a flurry of plans.

Boat Show for once on Friday. Some really exciting purchases planned this year:

anode for the calorifier
water filter cartridge
Er... that's it. :nonchalance:

Thanks mate. Do you know if they will be doing a survey, or will they be using the old data of the Blackwater? Not much point in buying 'new' charts if they are based on the last survey. Someone told me the river, was last surveyed in 1960's or something. No idea if that is true or not.

I don't think they are doing (or have had) a full survey but I know they have all my data - Lawling Creek, Bradwell Creek, Tollesbury and Mersea Quarters which I hope will help. Certainly they were interested on the Mersea Quarters data (which is pretty interesting!) having checked on my figures. And of course there was a large commercial survey whihc would have including the Colne Bar which is part of the chart. I am sure they will have had the last commercial survey on Bradwell Creek as well. UKHO have an update from the Maldon Bailiff and have asked for an update on the Mersea Quarters buoyage which will be altered in a month or two. There was talk about Tollesbury wanting a commercial survey not long ago.

I would guess that there will be little change over the main channel. The edges may be different as Tollesbury Pier shows.

Surprisingly the current edition of the chart (3741) is dated 14.1.16! But 'Includes significant safety-related information as follows: changes to depths in Brightlingsea Harbour and its approaches, from the latest harbour authority survey'. I have the 1994 edition to hand and the source data is dated as 1985, 74-79. 1918-1919 - that's the Admiralty Surveys, other sources 1990, Aerial photography 1981 and 1990. Obviously a later edition will be more recent.

I might be lucky and get sent one :encouragement: They very kindly sent me a new copy of 1975 Thames Estuary - Northern Part at the beginning of last year.

Thanks, would you happen to know if the new edition of the leisure folio be based on the same data as the pending full River Blackwater chart? It would be slightly irritating to buy the new folio only to find the Blackwater area 'out of date' later in 2017.

I was thinking the same. It is an interesting conumdrum; I am sure the Leisure folio will incorporate all NtoMs up to a late date, for example to incorporate the survey over the Colne Bar that occurred half way through last year. The West Mersea buoyage will not be up date but then a decision hasn't been made yet as far as I know. But I suspect they would issue a block for that change once it is finished. Quite what their plans for the new edition of the full Blackwater chart are, I do not know. I will ask; they seem happy that we are interested.
