I have run PC Plotter on an old Thinkpad x60 notebook on the boat for years which appears to have died. It used Windows XP and won’t boot even with a recovery disc- it gets so far and then the BSOD appears. Appart from the hassle and expense of reloading programs and charts onto a new machine, my main problem is that connection to the boat’s NEMA, AIS engine and plotter is via a serial port. The Thinkpad is the perfect fit on the chart table and because I have a docking station I can leave everything connected and take the thing home or use it to watch movies in comfort. No repairers seem interested in it mainly because XP is no longer supported. My inclination is to risk another second-hand Thinkpad which are around using Windows 7. Any thoughts appreciated!
