Happy new year to all if it's not too late.
We have got a "normal" laptop on board as a main pc and it's enough for what we want to do. Now we are thinking that it would be nice to have another one, to avoid any fights and to travel with, but it could be very basic, able Skype and e-mail mostly. We have started to look at what's on the market and panicked, the choice is so huge and they are all offering far too much hi-teck.
Could somebody point us in the right direction for simple and cheap or is that total dream?

Yeah - for what you want a netbook woul be ideal - think of it as a mini laptop - I got one for Christmas (Hewlett Packard 210) and am absolutely delighted with it.... kids have Compaq one's and they're just as good.... usually come in at just over £200 here in the UK...

Some here

I have a Samsung netbook that also functions as a back-up nav system with Open CPN, CM93 charts and a GPS dongle. Preferably have one with a solid state drive as more robust but a lot less memory. Any of them will do really, the battery life is much better than a laptop...
