What makes the distinction between a "new user" and a "regular"?

Apart from the regulars having a jaundiced wit etc etc and the newbies displaying wonder at the wealth of knowledge often available..... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Regulars have made 10+ posts AND had this fact recognised by the PBO computer and its esteemed master, Kim. I had understood from a recent post that they had, between them, sorted this out though this appears not to be the case. Perhaps a PM to kimhollamby might get you updated.

You should jump from new to regular when you've made 10 posts, but the forum software seems to have glitched a few times recently. pm kim hollamby or one of the other moderators (box down bottom left lists them) and they'll fix it for you

Thanks, I was just wondering rather than wanting to scale the dizzy heights of "regular" user...anyway might be safer to stay marked as a "new user" then when I ask a stupid question........ :)

I can guarantee that you dont need to be a new user to be capable of asking a stupid question, I have been doing so for years! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I was just wondering the same thing ... I've been sweating away making & trying to answer posts as best I can in a vain effort to become 'Regular' to no avail..... I was starting to wonder if there's a secret forum voting mechanism for existing regulars to initiate new users. !

I wonder if the 10+ posts thing is within a period of time? I registered a long while ago, occasionally read as a guest, but didnt post until recently when I bought a boat, so despite being reasonably active recently my overall average per week/month since registering is probably low.

Anyway, new user or not it's a great source of information exchange.

You might have made a lot of posts under the old forum software that aren't seen by the new software as counting towards regular status. Though you should have been given regular status then. Just PM Kim, and he'll sort it for you.

Even better, I've just hit the nofify moderator button, so Kim and other moderators will see this post and realise there is a consistent issue.

When we've had this problem in the past it's been due to people being unfortunate enough to have exactly 10 posts at the point we changed the limits. We probably went live with the new software and had left the defaults when you hit 10, so when we lowered the limit to 10 you were already past that point...

I'll fix yer up with a regular tag /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
